It was a great Christmas..

Hope everyone out there had a great Christmas as well!

If you ask Wyatt, he would have to agree that it was great. Coincidentally he started smiling right about the time that Christmas was here, so it was perfect timing for him to tell you that he liked his gifts! (pictured in his new 'my little lamb swing' - yes, the lambs might have helped the sale...lol)

And the bonus for mom and dad:
you can only count those`sheep (or little lambs) spinning above your head so many times before you drift off to dream. (so it's more like a gift for us! especially at 3 in the morning and nothing else is working)

Christmas Eve Morning (from the kitchen window)

Well the shades are back up on the kitchen, but i could tell by the light shining thru the glass in the door that it was a glorious sunrise this morning.
No snow for Christmas here, but I'll take the beautiful sunrise!

And looking at me from inside the window here is an unfinished Christmas gift! And it's Christmas Eve, so why is it unfinished? Because I started on it yesterday... nothing like waiting til the last minute. But.. as far as the hat - it's "wet felted" and if you love working with fiber, but haven't tried wet felting yet, it really is worth trying. The hardest part of the hat here (well, the most interesting part) is finding a bowl or pot that will almost fit your head to use as a mold to shape the hat. Once you have that figured out, it's just a matter of felting and shaping!
Hope everyone is ready for the festivities and that you have your projects finished and wrapped :) Merry Christmas!

From the Kitchen Window

I took the Roman Shades down last night to redo them, and it was a nice surprise to wake up this morning and see this scene outside the window. It looks like a new season has arrived here.

I might make it out sometime today to tromp in the snow, but for now, i just took a few pictures from the window.

Some of the ram lambs... I can't wait to put all of the sheep back in one lot. We have 3 separate lots going now with breeding season finishing up...big rams, small rams, ewes.. We only have the one guard dog, so not only will it be less complicated to feed and water when they're in one lot, they'll be much safer too.

And Little Wyatt.. He's already 2 weeks old now. (and changing every day) I looked at these pictures that were taken this past week and it looks like they're of 3 different boys, but it's the same sweet little guy.

Week One...

We've had a great first week home with Wyatt.

Lots of cuddle time!

His first doctor visit went well. He's gaining weight and apparantly length too! He's 2-1/2" longer than the what the hospital recorded at birth. He's outgrowing his little outfits rather quickly! Fortunately, we go thru about 7 outfits a day, so he'll have the opportunity to wear all the cute clothes that he was given before they're too small :)

A wintertime project...

Wool is piling up, so after a lot of consideration, we now have a carder! I have not used a carder before, so I don't have anything to compare this to, but I love this carder :) It's a Strauch 405. It is much bigger than I thought from the pictures, and makes an 8x22 batt. I was going to leave it in the box for a little while - (with the anticipation that a baby will be here any day now, didn't want to get a mess going in the house) but as you can see, it's out of the box. And yes, there's wool everywhere. (we've been told by the doctor/mid-wife that the baby is very contented where he's at, regardless of the date they set for him -so ... we're just going to let him take his time and get here when he's ready!) Meanwhile, I'll card some wool.
This is from our ram Cody. He produced 6 pounds of wool from his fall shearing, so it's a great place to start.

I think his wool will make nice felting batts - and I am excited to try some wet felting projects with his wool. Maybe some hats? But it will be a while before that happens -for now, there's plenty of wool to be carded up!
